Site Flipping on Sitepoint’s Startup Marketplace – Is It Still Viable?

What is website flipping?

Webite site flipping is just like real estate flipping, buy cheap, add value and sell at a profit.  However, unlike the real estate analogy, website flipping can turn profits is hours rather than months and years. It involves hunting down virtual real estate bargains, renovating them or allowing them to mature and selling them on for a significant profit.

There are two types of flippers …

1.Those who look for fast turnaround creating low investment small blogs or forumula sites (usually a wordpress blog with 10 articles and a plr ebook  or a clickbank product) .  Those flipping websites  using this method can expect to turnover between $100 and $3000 per site.  Typically the wordpress sites sell for between $247 and $347 while Clickbank products can achieve up to $1000.

2.Tthose who invest long term, spending more money and putting more effort into adding value to the site, achieving much higher price on sale.

Let’s look at the first type who typically sell in the Sitepoint Startup Section …

Because of the ease with which these types of sites, especially the wordpress blogs, can be created, the market for these, which is largely Sitepoint, has become saturated.  Site flippers are finding it more and more difficult to achieve the prices or number of sales they were reaching two months ago.

Some sellers are offering cut price websites that others have been used to selling for double or even triple the price.  This is making it more and more difficult to sustain the level of profits that were possible previously. Right now, competition in the startup section of  Sitepoint is fierce.

Whether or not this situation continues remains to be seen.  I have seen people on some of the private site flipping forums talk about moving out of the low cost, short turnaround flips after their listings failed to sell, towards the more long term flips.  If this happens, maybe the market will pick up again, at least for a short while until it floods over yet again and continues the cycle!

There are always peaks and troughs in the Sitepoint marketplace and it reamins to be seen how long this one lasts for.

My advice would be to avoid selling blog style flips for now unless you are capable of producing sites of the highest quality, as this is what you will need to stand out from the crowd right now in the Sitepoint marketplace.

Sure, there are some sellers still making money and flipping successfully but these sellers have built a strong list to whom they can market new sites , driving traffic and bids to their listing.  They are also well established sellers, with excellent feedback and a lot of experience in choosing the right niches for selling.

All this is a contributing factor to your success on Sitepoint as low cost site flipper on Sitepoint.
